The Average Time on Page metric tracks the average amount of time users spend viewing a specified page. This is calculated by the time a user enters a website and then clicks a link to view the next page but not the last page because Google can’t measure the time a user spent looking at the last page of their visit to your site.
Why is Average Time on Page Important?
The Average Time on Page metric is important because it can be a clue to the quality of your on-page content and whether it’s holding users’ interest.
Average time on page can also be an insight into the effectiveness of a page with a high bounce rate. For example, if users spend a lot of time on a page, the page is most likely valuable and could warrant a closer look to ensure you’re capitalizing on call(s)-to-action.
